How To: Bulk Rate Your New Mentions
by Julia Willcox on 2009/04/30
The BrandsEye team is constantly listening to market feedback and updating BrandsEye accordingly. The newest update which I will take you through is “Bulk Rating”. It has got us all here at BrandsEye very excited. Essentially the new bulk rating functionality will help you to rate large groups of mentions that meet specific criteria. This will limit individual mention rating time and make your life a little bit easier! Not excited yet? Follow this instructional guide and it should make more sense and get you a bit more excited.
The next three steps will show you how to group mentions together under specific criteria. For example you can group mentions by the same author, by the same domain name or by the same phrase.
Step 1: Log into your BrandsEye account.
Step 2: Go to all mentions
Step 3: Decide on your criteria. For this example I have chosen a combination of author and domain.
3a) Select ‘state is relevant’ then click on the plus sign.
3b) Select 'process state is sorted', then click on the plus sign again.
3c) Select link in drop-down menu and enter the domain that you are interested in. For this example we are grouping all links that contain the word “Twitter”. Then click plus sign.
3d) Select author in drop-down menu and enter the author that you are interested in. For this example we are grouping all Twitter mentions authored by Idea Bounty. Note that you can choose from different combinations of categories in the drop-down menu.
3e) Click 'show' to show all the mentions that contain the expressions you have chosen.
Now that you have selected the criteria that you want to group your mentions under you can rate the categories that are common in the grouped mentions. ie: Twitter mentions that originate from Idea Bounty are always marked with media origin as enterprise.
Step 4: Select all mentions that you want to bulk rate into one category by ticking the box next to the mention or click ‘all’ to select all mentions on the screen.
Step 5: Press the edit button next to any one of the mentions that you have selected.
Step 6: You will now be presented with a page that allows you to set the state, language, credibility etc as required and will be applied to all the mentions in the group that you have selected. For this example we have selected all mentions where the link contains ‘Twitter’ and authored by ‘Idea Bounty’. Therefore I will mark all mentions with media origin as enterprise, language as English and credibility as 2 (which is the credibility of Idea Bounty on Twitter). These settings will then be applied to all Twitter mentions by Idea Bounty. You can still change the tags when the rating is done if the language etc is different to your bulk edit.
Step 7: Go to your Firefox extension and under the Options button choose ‘get sorted mentions’. For those mentions that you have bulk sorted you will only have to rate the variable categories such as sentiment. All selected mentions will be rated as per your settings.
Let us know how you are finding this functionality. We really want to know if you are using it and finding it helpful or not.
