How to: Use Tags
by Emma Drummond on 2009/05/07
BrandsEye is proud to introduce yet another new functionality tool, Tagging. Tags (free tagging) allow you to group mentions into any classifications that you choose. The practical applications of tagging are 1. assisting in bulk sorting, 2. great for providing assistance when writing BrandsEye reports, and 3. notifications.
Once a mention has been tagged, it is easy to “fetch” mentions that may be spread across different phrases and report back on it. To give an example, one could find this helpful when having to react in real-time to any downplay mentions for a respective brand, which requires action by a particular member within the company.
Tagging is a very simple process, and one that will be beneficial in the long term management of your BrandsEye account. Take a read through the following few steps and get acquainted with the practical use of tags:
Step 1:
After logging into your account, sort your mentions as per usual.
Step 2:
Once you’ve downloaded the Firefox extension, press “ALT Q” to get the Firefox extension and retrieve your sorted mentions.
2a) Click on a mention, the BrandsEye rating menu will appear below and the relative site will appear in the right hand window. The phrases picked up in the article will be highlighted, giving you insight into the content.
2b) Fill in all the fields in the BrandsEye menu. The last of these fields to fill in is the blank tag field. In here, you can fill in any relevant tags pertaining to that particular post.
2c) Click submit - your mentions have now been filtered through into the rated category and tagged accordingly. Rate all your new mentions in the same way, tagging any phrases you deem relevant.
We previously said that tagging gives greater importance to notifications. This is because you can set up an action process that notifies you whenever for have tagged a mention, for example, as ‘Action’. Once a mention is tagged as 'Action', the respective contact can set it up so that he will receive an instant notification alerting him that the mention requires action.
Step 3: Checking Tags
To view the tags you are currently monitoring, click on the “tags” option in the left hand “Home” menu.
This will open a page listing all the tags you have put in place. It will also give you an indication of how many mentions there are of those particular tags.
3a) To view the various mentions of any particular tags, click on the underlined red number that appears under “Mentions”. This is advantageous when wanting to “fetch” mentions for report writing.
3b) To edit the tags you have made, click on the highlighted red “edit” and make any changes, and to delete any tags, click on the “minus” sign underneath the Delete column.
Something to keep in mind when tagging is the underlying Booliean logic and syntax. In plain English, this means you need to ensure you leave a space between each separate word you want tagged. This makes the tagging more refined and will yield the best result when you want to pull mentions for report writing.
Eg: The word “Apple MAC” will tag each mention under “apple” and “mac” respectively. Whereas, Apple_Mac or appplemac would tag that mention under one tag.
We hope you find this new functionality tool helpful and it makes your BrandsEye interaction easier and faster. Any questions or confusion- please let us know and we’ll gladly explain further.
Happy tagging!
