Communities Only Kill Bad Brand

by Tim Shier on 2010/10/11

I recently came across a very insightful SlideShare presentation which looked at brands which have experienced reputation crises in the last 10 years. As I flicked through it with interest, it reminded me of some of the case studies we used years ago.

Something else that was apparent in all these cases, was it seems the brands ultimately deserved what they got. In all scenarios, they broke a promise and essentially tried to cheat their communities into believing something. This, my friends, never ends well – nobody likes to be lied to.

Below is a short presentation (with voiceover) which I did for a conference a couple of weeks ago, which dealt with trying to answer the question “Are communities killing brands?” To which my answer was a resounding “NO!”.

So, as the BrandsEye community, I’d love to hear your thoughts about this idea either in the comments or Twitter (@brandseye).
